I was having dinner with the girlfriends family the other day. They're Welsh and so some of the conversation is in Welsh, which of course I don't understand at all.

Anyway, whilst listening to strings of words that didn't even sound like a language I joked to one of the others at the table that she needed a personal subtitling machine. Then I thought... 'not a bad idea that...'

A t-shirt that contains audio voice recognition and a translation device to translate whatever the wearer is saying into another language and display it as subtitles.

the technology exists. I have seen audio receptive t-shirts that show volume of speech as a display (see pic). Of course there is more technology within this, but they make technology so small these days that I'm sure it's possible. Plus putting technology and functionality into clothing is all the rage these days. Washing may pose a problem.

The idea could be just a personal subtitler that almost hangs around the neck of the user to negate the need for a translator. Although I do like the idea of it being clothing.

The device would contain learning software so that the more it is used the more accurate it becomes.

Of course there are professional uses, but it would probably make the wearer look a little foolish so not really for high-flying corporates, but maybe good for travellers so that the locals understand them. Travellers in small towns look foolish anyway.
